i'm a southern peach..
hello from atlanta... nothing much to report, actually. things are going great and we're loving being here. i tell you what - if i liked america better, i'd be tempted to move back. however, i think the best option would be for my family to move to england. i doubt they'll go for it.

the wedding this past weekend in DC was nice - i'm happy for kristen and steve. it was weird to be back in my old stomping grounds and there were more than a few odd moments for me. but all in all - it was cool to see old friends and reconnect with people. whitney, if you're reading.. harlow is absolutely fantastic and mary catherine sends her hellos.

more later - i've got the shakes, i've not checked my email in so long.

counting down..
today i'm at work. tomorrow we fly. am i packed? no. am i ready to go? no. am i slightly stressed about the new apartment at the moment? yes.

more later.

19 April 2004
just got the scissor sisters self titled cd.. i HIGHLY recommend you run, don't walk, to your record store and pick it up. is most excellent. below is a picture of mary catherine taken on friday at the playground after work. the girl is a maniac on the slides - such a thrillseeker. i am not sure where she gets it from.

16 April 2004
for some reason i cannot get the jabberwocky poem out of my head... arg - driving me crazy. what the f*ck is a jubjub bird. i'd like to strangle lewis carroll.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

fanks fa da memories..
i've been going through my blog archives - since i've been blogging for over a year now and found this little screen gem to share with you. it's a quick movie of mary catherine at two weeks old. we'd taken her to andrew's office and his co-worker took the vid. see it here. man, i can't believe that's the same baby who just this morning tried to put her dummy in the cat's mouth.

tonight after work we're going to the park for a while with friends. hey - it's friday and why shouldn't the girls get to party like it's 1999 on the swings for a little while and stay up a little late? woohoo!

ooh - i've found the greatest site.. www.fray.com really cool stuff to read.. :)

last night i went on a proverbial 'night out with the girls' and the subject came up of email. i think i might be weird. see - i have this compulsive desire to not keep stuff on my computer(s).. email - i read it, reply and delete. is that odd? i also regularly go through my hard drive and delete files i don't need. it's like i can sense them lurking there and that annoys me. my mac is totally clean of crap at all times. i think i have hard drive obsessive compulsive disorder! oh, if only my house were that clean!

still - a fun night out. margaritas so sweet and tasty that my teeth ache today. i am very lucky to have good friends. [even if they do think i'm weird for deleting email!]

the london marathon is this weekend - which means we'll be stuck at home for at least 6 hours on sunday. we're on the route, which is cool. i like that kind of exercise - other peoples'! more to come..

toddler survey..
ooh - a toddler based meme! totally swiped from likeababy!
1. Color of baby's eyes? At birth?
a very lovely blue - they've been the same colour since she was born.
2. Color of hair? Lots/Little? How many (if any) haircuts?
her hair is a reddish strawberry blonde. in the back it's coming in white blonde underneath her curls but seems to be red still on top. odd! it seems that her hair has really grown lately - she has straight hair in the front and curls in the back (see - we have a real front back thing going on!). she's had one hair cut at the 'beauty parlour' in my hometown. i knew it was time for one when i saw her picking hair out of her eyelashes.
3. Favorite toy of the week?
this week's favourite toy.. hmm. i think it's andrew and i! she loves to climb all over us and have us flip her upside down. i've started an heuristic play bag for her and am filling it with things for her to play with. today she enjoyed playing with two pink 'travel cosmetic bottles' - she thought the bag was cool too.
4. Tantrums? Yes/No and what are they like?
oh they're not very nice! she gets so filled with emotion that it sort of bubbles over the top and she just loses it. i feel a bit for her, i know i hate being frustrated and obviously, so does she.
5. Newest word?
ikea! she shouted it in the middle of the marks and spencer lifestore in newcastle on friday. now, i'm sure she's not really singing the praises of our favourite homewares store - but still. it made us laugh and laugh.
6. Favorite song/ TV show?
balamory. hands down - it's the only thing she is absolutely glued to when we put it on. let me sing the praises of tivo - because we always have an episode of balamory on tap.
7. Favorite foods right now?
scrambled eggs.. apple sauce.. spaghetti. oh - and cheese.
8. Shoe size? Clothing size?
she's just about to burst out of her current shoes - so i imagine we're almost to 4.5UK. i think she's had a growth spurt lately, because the 12-18 month stuff she's been wearing is all of a sudden not suitable anymore.
so i think we're firmly in the 18-24s.
9. Any other new and exciting moments in the life of your toddler?
she's just so much her own person these days.. she likes to do things her way and really understands what we're saying to her. she's amazing.

another artsy fartsy mama moment
this is a picture taken during mary catherine's one woman easter egg hunt. she found them all - with a little help. we leave for the states a week from thursday - a friend of mine is getting hitched, so we thought we'd go and watch the blessed event. sadly, we don't have much time in the DC area - but at least we have a bit. there's a new air & space museum at dulles air-o-port. think we can get miss mc to sit through an imax movie?

back from up north.. we had a great weekend with a's family. mary catherine enjoyed all the attention (who wouldn't!) anyway - photos and more stories to tell later ..

the weirdest thing happened to my mac the other day - i think it has alzheimers. seriously - it just 'forgot' every customized thing on it. so i lost my email settings (if you've not heard from me in a few days, this is why!) my site settings, my browser bookmarks.. everything. poof gone. so i'm slowly discovering everything that vanished - little by little. annoying. of course, my machine is over four years old now, so i guess it's allowed to have a hiccup or two. i was about to go into a total rave about how much i love my mac - but i'll spare you .. you've probably had enough sticky sweets for this weekend anyway.

08 April 2004
this is fun.. rub your cursor over the guy's face.

ooh - interesting.
have a look at this - it's a geographically correct tube map (stolen from poggs) compare that to the artsy fartsy well loved tube map. oh man - i just realised that i might be a geek.. i'm rambling about MAPS. uh... yeah.

well - while i'm at it, i might as well nerd to the fullest extent. check out the new tube guru. (can we tell that someone's been spending a little too much time on the tube site?) choose a station (like limehouse where i live) and it'll tell you what's cool in the area. (uh - just checked under limehouse... it needs a bit of work)

today we're off to the great north coast. i can't wait - i'm sure all the sheep will have lambed and i really dig seeing little lamblets running around. makes my maternal heart go thud, for sure. last night i adhered to the andrew method of packing - which is not to do it until this morning. while it was stressful this morning for about 30 minutes - it wasn't so bad. (but don't tell him that)

07 April 2004
my favourite browser - you should get it too! screw IE!
Get Firefox

i want this book... it's my sorta thing.

this week's entries are going to be kinda light - it's the week before a holiday weekend and i've lots to do. i promise long rambling posts next week, for what it's worth.

i'm so not ready to go away this weekend.. haven't packed a thing. haven't done laundry - i'm pretty stressed about it. oh well - as andrew says (grr) it'll all get sorted. i think what that really means is that i'll do all the work and magically, for him, it will all be done! viola! *grumble*

06 April 2004
we're heading up to a's parents' house this weekend in god's country. i am really looking forward to it. but oh - what to pack. more later....

05 April 2004
we watched bowling for columbine last night... it was a nice effort on michael moore's part, i think. sadly - and correct me if i'm wrong - i'm not sure it will have made much of an impact on many americans, if they even bothered to see it. charlton heston and the NRA really suck. from the grossly quoteable charlton heston...

"Trigger locks? A ludicrous invention. If you can't put it on a weapon without taking the bullets out, why put it on?" A five-day waiting period? "It's hard for me to accept that a guy says, 'I'm going to kill that s.o.b., but, darn, I have this five-day waiting period.' He probably still wants to kill him after five days." Ban Saturday-night specials? "The black and Hispanic women who clean office buildings until 3 a.m. and then walk home--of course, they want a handgun in their purse." Limit purchases to one gun a month? "It's the camel's nose in the tent. Look at Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Idi Amin--every one of these monsters, on seizing power, their first act was to confiscate all firearms in private hands..." he makes my teeth itch.

on a lighter note.. here are some snaps of mc from the weekend.. i'm finding it harder and harder to take pictures of her as she is in constant motion! so i decided just to snap her as she was.. less of a battle.

02 April 2004
where i work don't spin too fast - it'll make you hurl.

mama got a little misty!
apartment update: things are proceeding.. we've found a solicitor (thanks to easier2move.co.uk) and the financing is going through. all systems are go.

thought i'd post a few pictures from mary catherine's first hair cut. when we were flying over to atlanta for my grandfather's funeral, i noticed that mc was picking hair out of her eyelashes. and since miss won't let me put anything in her hair to hold it out of her eyes, i knew we were haircut bound. mom and i took my grandmother to the beauty parlour and decided to have it done there. mc had just woken from a nap - so she was pretty calm about the whole thing. it's really cute now - and i'm glad we had it done. just the fringe trimmed .. and it's so nice not to see her with hair in her eyes!

ps
- for those who know her ... Duaa's pregnant!

01 April 2004
a photo
of the outside of the most fabulous apartment... it's a converted grade II listed mansion.

and now for today's anti-Bush sentiment..
contains a few naughty words.. but is very very very funny. and sadly, true.
