oooh fun!

another picture from last night.. this time of andrew and mary catherine. now - who do you think she most looks like?
what a fantastic time we had last night.. even though i'm not winning any parent of the year awards letting mary catherine stay up until 1045pm! she handled it really well though and had a great time. the london symphony orchestra as conducted by mary catherine was excellent. even when she decided to 'sing along' with the violin solo in the theme from schindler's list. not sure everyone around us enjoyed it as much as we did - but they did love it when she did every single 'bum didee bum' in the theme from rocky. she is one amazing child.
been a while since i posted a pic of the divine miss mary catherine. here she is with her babies - she loves those dolls. lately, i've been having to change their nappies before she'll let me change hers. i just dread the day she insists they take a bath with her!
whether it's his snoring or just the idea of not being alone.. i slept last night like i've not slept in weeks. i'm very glad andrew is home.
we're going to see the london symphony orchestra tonight with good friends - very much looking forward to that. i think this will end up being a great week. i'm feeling so much better mentally and i'm really looking forward to spending this weekend with my family in my new home.
cement shoes or floors like tissue
ahh.. my last night alone. yay! my last night alone! i'm lying here with my now normal comforts going full force. in order to sleep in the new house i've taken to sleeping with the radio on to start, a nightlight and a fan. the combination of those three plus staying up until i collapse with utter exhaustion just about do it. dumb, huh?
i am ill. i think i've made myself sick while andrew's been away. i sure haven't been getting a lot of sleep, that's for sure. only 2 nights of the 7 has mary catherine slept through in her own bed. i don't mind her company but she's a wriggler not to mention a bed hog.
i don't know what the people upstairs do - but from about 1130 until 1am it's constant noise up there. mainly just foot traffic - there's one very noisy door right over mc's room. i hope we all learn to get used to the noises they make. :deep breath: i'm trying.. i'm trying. but jeez-o-pete buy some slippers or carpet! drives me nuts. anyway - off to surf a bit more before bravely turning off the light for the evening.
today is my third wedding anniversary. and yes, before you chuckle to yourself - it is a record for me. three years.
three years of laughter, idle chatter, hugs and kisses, a few fights here and there, a house purchase, a baby, a cat, inlaws, late nights, late nights with the baby, tears of sorrow, tears of joy, silly jokes, really good jokes, bad jokes.. the list goes on and on. most importantly is that it's been three years of nothing but 100% love. i am blessed.
i am afraid of my new apartment. well - not of the actual apartment itself. but of the people around it. it's 1130pm on a saturday night. there are loud teenagers hanging out in our private front garden. i am such a nervous wreck that i've had to switch rooms. my heart is racing and i'm not coping well. what's wrong with me?
now that i've been commuting this week - i've gotten back into people watching. mainly as a way to kill time and because it's often amusing to watch them to the soundtrack of my ipod on shuffle.
my journey is just one long music video, really. i try to nterlock stories and segway my way through interminable boredom. what really rocks is when i'm cruising right along in that weird place between being fully awake and 'bus stupor' and my ipod throws me a curveball with a wickedly unsuspected, yet appropriate track.
don't ask me why - but cat stevens singing 'morning has broken' as i walk past soho square to my office on a sunny morning whils gently sipping my double blended mocha frappucino was pretty satisfying. i even managed to block out the smell of old wee that seems to linger on the morning after every night before.
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world
...
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
sappy, huh?
andrew's safely in california.. i miss him like crazy. mary catherine got in bed with me around 230am. it was nice, we both snuggled down into our big bed and went back to sleep. when i woke up this morning, there was a tiny face an inch away from mine. eyes wide open, she said, 'hello' and gave me a kiss. it was a perfect way to wake up.
i'm not so keen about being back in the world of commuting on public transport. the bus i need in the evening is often so packed that they don't even stop to take on new passengers. is very frustrating. last night i took the tube home. well, partly home. so hot and stuffy. but much faster than the bus.
not much else to report, i'm afraid. i got lost on the bus on monday - how pathetic is that? i don't mean that i couldn't find my way off the bus, just that i got on the wrong bus to the right destination that took ages and took me all around the houses. i lost my bearings and was so turned around that i was afraid to get off to fix the situation because i didn't know where i was. i got home at 9. was not nice.
have i mentioned that i miss andrew?
dramamama. flowerpower. jetsetter. barcodebaby. saucy. artsymama.
ha - i was just looking back through my recent posts and the interface truncates the titles.. so i just read 'back in the office after a nice long wee'. sadly - this is often true!
i'm totally stoked - what started out as a whim is actually going to bring in (a little , because i refuse to overprice my stuff) dosh! i know i keep rambling about it - but i've opened a store and today sold SIX items! if you were one of the people who bought some of my blocky graphic items - many many thanks! i plan to put the money in savings for a rainy day for mary catherine (or one of those days when i can NOT resist buying her something.) even if you're not interested in buying anything, i'd love for you to look at my store and leave me a comment and tell me what you think of the designs, items for sale and pricing. click here for the store.
andrew leaves for california tomorrow morning. i'm really going to miss him. our house has been grand central station lately, with the housewarming party, andrew's family, my mom and now andrew's mom is down to help me with mary catherine while he's away. when we're on our own, our house is going to seem really empty!
here's the front of the shirt i designed for mary catherine.. (click to enlarge) i love how it turned out.
if you haven't gathered by now - i'm potty about stripes and barcodes have been in my artsy life for a long, long time. the letters and numbers on the shirt are mary catherine's birth stats and the pink stripe (because many have asked) is just because she's a girl and i think the lone strip of colour is visually pleasing. i'm really proud of it!
not to be totally cheeky - but i'm selling these shirts if anyone's interested in a personalised one for their little boy (with blue stripe) or girl.. let me know if you'd like one! my other products are in my store - click here .. please note that for a customised tee, you can not order straight from my shop, you'll have to liase with me directly. the shirt on the shop is for display purposes only!

not only am i a dot com.. but my daughter advertises for me!
mom leaves tomorrow - i'm already bummed.
i'll have a burger with arms on the side...
how scary is this?
"On July 2, Fairfax County police received a 911 call from a Champps restaurant in Reston. Six men are seated at a table, the caller said. They're all armed.
Dispatchers quickly sent four officers to the scene. The officers were "extremely polite" and were hoping that some of the men were in law enforcement, said Sgt. Richard Perez, a spokesman for the police department. None was.
The men told the officers "they were just exercising their rights as citizens of the commonwealth," Perez said.
Turns out, packing a pistol in public is perfectly legal in Virginia. And three times in the last month, including at Champps on Sunset Hills Road, residents have been spotted out and about in the county, with guns strapped to their hips, exercising that right.

you have to register to read this article - i hate that, sorry.
fish oil..
we've started mary catherine on these fish oil supplements .. and i've just read a great article on how important DHA is to growing brains and eyes. an interesting paragraph popped up at me - all about the increased intelligence and academic performance of breastfed children compared with formula-fed infants which has been attributed in part to the increased DHA content of human milk.
i am SO glad mary catherine was breastfed! interesting stuff.
first day back in the office after a nice long weekend. we had my mom and most of andrew's family in town this weekend. mary catherine seemed to really enjoy seeing everyone and now calls his sister sarah, rah-rah. when they left, she sat in andrew's arms waving like a crazy lady squealing 'bye bye rah rah'.. it was c-u-t-e.
andrew's brother stayed with us until monday .. and maybe it's just me being sensitive. but he was only about 75% of a joy to be around. just moody and didn't particularly seem comfortable being with us once the rest of his family left. i'm probably just reading too much into his lack of interest in conversing with me. it was difficult and i almost feel guilty for asking him to come or writing down how i feel - but he's already told me that he doesn't read this, although i know other members of his family do. no offense, guys.
mom is still here and i am loving it. even though it feels like all we've done is clean and unpack the entire time she's been here. i feel pretty guilty and wish we could take some fun time to just hang out. but i will say that we've laughed and laughed and to that effect, anything i do with my mom (even if it's going through 4 year old paperwork or our 98th trip to ikea) is a very good time. mary catherine is really going to miss her when she goes (i'm not even going to talk about how much i'll miss her or i'll bawl on my keyboard) .. this morning the first thing she wanted to do is go find her nana. very sweet.
more later i'm sure..
oh how i love having my mother here... we've had a nice time and she's really helped me get my life/house in order. sometimes a girl just needs her mom. although when she's around, i don't feel like the mommy any more - i feel like the babysitter!
we had a great day yesterday.. molton brown for a facial (it was free - the products i purchased after were not!) then to lunch at wagamama and then to the one o'clock club for mary catherine to have a good play. it's been so nice having the time to spend with the two of them - even if we seem to be in a constant state of running around.
andrew's parents come in tonight and his brother and sister tomorrow. a big house full of family. and we finally have almost enough room for everyone! our housewarming party is on saturday - so ya'll come!
(ps : nerdy me wants you to know that we now have internet at the house. woohoo!)
picked mom up at the airport yesterday.. got a little (!) lost on the way home. but we made it eventually. mary catherine was glad to see her and warmed up to mo very quickly. i am so glad that she's here. even if she's already started reorganizing my kitchen.
we went to ikea yesterday... i'm starting to hate that place. picked up the missing wardrobe fittings that were supposedly being delivered all week last week and got home to find that they'd not send the hinges for the wardrobe doors. so frustrating. i'll be writing a letter to ikea today. they make me grumpy, good meatballs or not.
monday..
ah.. monday. not much to report, actually. saturday we went swimming (mary catherine passed her silver level swimming test, i'm proud to report) and then to coffee with friends. we them ambled down to molton brown as we always do on a saturday morning to discuss the merits of face cream. then we went to ikea. we bought a rug for the living room floor (to ease the blue carpet, brown sofa divide) and a few other odds and ends. i could live there, i think.
sunday was spent watching a few movies and our usual trip to the tesco. we then went to the wharf and bummed around for an hour. good weekend - Still haven't managed to find the inspiration to go and clean out the old flat. go figure.
tomorrow my mom arrives - i can't wait. i'm only working every other day for the next two weeks - so whoohoo! mary catherine and i are going to try and find our way to gatwick by ourselves in the morning... could be dodgy!

But whut makes deir agency different be deir speciality - supplyin' sucka's who

He said, dig dis: "Amputees be needed 4 da battle scenes, an' I think we've

(that's this news story translated by the jive server.. enjoy!)
quote for today..
saw this on an email list i'm on and it made me chuckle.. not as much as my all time favourite (try and say 'beer can' without sounding like a jamaican saying bacon - seriously, that cracks me up all the time)
"Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won`t bother you for weeks."
